If You See Something, Say Something

Last week I had to atend a business meeting in Washington DC. It is quite an important event bringing in people from all over the US as well as from international sites. There are plenary sessions discussing the latest scientific information and break out groups and sessions which are more intimate. Part of the purpose of the meeting aside from the sharing of information is the networking aspect, putting faces to names and interacting in a relaxed but academic environment.

Networking is not my strong point as I am naturally quite shy and prefer to be in the background of the action, however I can make myself be social and behave in the appropriate manner. So there was a meeting that it was particularly important that I attend as it was directly related to a study I am working on. I showered and shaved and went on time to the meeting which was in a large ballroom with various round tables. I found a table and made a point of introducing myself to the other attendees. I was also joined by a work colleague and we chatted about various topics both related to work and social things.

After a while - not a short while but a considerable period of time my hand brushed against my forehead..... and discovered a huge dried booger stuck there!! Not a little one but I big one I was mortified that I had been all this time with this blob stuck on my face. Why didn't someone say something? If it were me I always gently point out lipstick on teeth, open flies, or food in teeth etc etc. I would have really appreciated just one person pointing out what must have been obvious to everyone I had spoken with and introduced myself to not to mention my co-worker who I had an intimate conversation with.

A Busy Week

Even though I took the week off work I have still had a busy week. I attended two graduation ceremonies this week, my school convocation and my commencement ceremony that was held at Yankee Stadium. Yes .....thats right after 5 years of part time study I finally graduated with my BA from NYU. I still can't quite believe it, that it is finally over. Both ceremonies were rather nice and the commencement speaker was no less than Bill Clinton which was exciting to see and hear him talk. I really have to thank everyone at my work and at home who have encouraged and supported me during this process. I especially need to thank DC without whom this simply would not have been possible. Thank You!!

Lazy Saturday

So far I am having a very lazy Saturday! I have a ton of studying to do for my psychology of personality midterm on Wednesday but I have to find the motivation to start. Rumor is that the professor gives very hard exams! DC went to the Dr yesterday and is now bootless. They were pleased with his progress and the bone seems to have healed. Now he can wear regular shoes and walk normally even though his ankles is still a little bruised and swollen. Tonight I have a ticket to see "How To Succeed In Business" but I am not sure if I am up for going. I will decide later in the day I think.

Cafe Cotto

DC has been getting more mobile and confident with his booted foot.He walks slowly but seems to be getting better everyday. He hasn't used his crutches in ages. Last night we were able to go out to dinner with our friend Barbara at a restaurant very close to us called Cafe Cotto.We only had to walk a block so it was very accessible. I thought the food was very good and had a yummy penne with eggplant.

Having a quiet weekend here at A Man and His Hoover which is more than can be said for my neighbors upstairs who had a wild party last night. You know it is bad news for the rest of the building when they come down and ask if you want to  come to the party. It has created quiet a stir in my building and a flurry of emails criticising events. From my perspective I try to stay calm about these things. Everyone is allowed one strike in my opinion although this person already has another strike against him for another impromptu party three weeks ago and people are pretty mad. When I get mad I try to think of calming things. One of the things I have  above my desk is a picture of a smiling dophin taken last year in Las Vegas.
Now how can you stay mad when you look at that?

Things are pretty much status quo here at A Man and His Hoover. DC is recovering nicely with his broken ankle and is slowly beginning to get around more easily. He has some terrific bruising though going all the way down to his toes! Very impressive. I have been taking class and generally trying to keep up with my readings and assignments even though it is early in the semester I want to try and stay on top  of things. I am also continuing to tinker with my blog role list and add something and take away others. I can honestly say it is so hard to delete certain blogs. Anyway sorry for such a dull post but just wanted to catch up with what is going on and to try not to loose blogging momentum.

Good News

Well the good news is that DC does not  have to have surgery for his broken ankle! Apparently the fibula is broken  and this will heal by itself as long as he keeps it fairly immobile over the next few weeks. Right now he has one of those huge boot contraptions for walking about in and around the house and he still has his crutches for going longer distances.

On another topic I am hugely procrastinating starting my school work for this semester. I have a major case of senioritis and just want everything to be done and finished! I have work to do for my Perception class and a lot of work to do for my  Personality class. It really is the perfect day to work -- grey, miserable, and cold so no excuses I will knuckle under and make a start.......soon.

Reality Break

So DC fell and broke his ankle yesterday ! We had had a pretty bad ice storm with freezing rain and snow the night before and so the sidewalks were pretty treacherous. He was being very gallant and walking me to the bus stop so he didn't even have to be out in it at all. So now he is home with a cast and crutches and the whole nine yeards and tomorrow he has to go see a surgeon! Fingers crossed that he doesn't have to have surgery on it.

Cleaning House

I am finally going through my small blog role and taking down some of the links that are now either inactive or have shown no activity for the past year or so. It is kind of sad and you can't help but wonder what has happened to the people whose lives you used to read about and share in some way. I didn't blog for over a year myself so I totally understand that I might have dropped off the radar for most people. The good news is that I have added some blogs and sites that I either think are really important, interesting or fun. I hope any readers who stop by find time to check them out.

RiverPark Restaurant

Apparently this week is "restaurant week" here in NYC. I am not a foodie as anyone can tell you so this special week usually has no meaning to me at all. However some of my co-workers are and so yesterday we decided to visit the newly opened RiverPark restaurant which is very close by for us. They had a special restaurant week lunch special. It was a really nice place, very modern and comfortable and I was impressed as there was not one but TWO vegetarian options for me to choose from on the menu. It was a nice way to end the week and even though overall we ended up paying way more for a lunch that I would normally spend I think it was good value for money.
